Serving God Gives You Peace

Peaceful Morning

Peaceful Morning (Photo credit: Bill Gracey)

“ Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”   —John 14:27 (KJV)

How do you make it when struggle seems to be the order of the day? The bible gives us an answer to this question; give it all over to Jesus! We cannot make it in this world—although we try—without a true, life-changing relationship with the Lord!

Many, if not all, of us have heard the Hebrew word Shalom used at one time or another. This word signifies peace. Shalom suggests being whole, full, complete, not fragmented, and made perfect.

Jesus, in the above verse, tells us that there is at least two types of peace…His and worldly. Worldly peace is based upon false images and assumptions. The world would have us believe that:

  • defeating our perceived enemies through war will give us peace;
  • money would give us happiness and that will give us peace;
  • having the right education, job, or career will give us peace;
  • having the perfect house, on the perfect street, and driving the perfect car will give us peace;
  • or having the perfect body image, (shape/size, eyes, hair, nose, etc., etc.,), will give us peace.

But none of these things have the capability of giving anyone true peace! We see the world’s picture of peace and perfection being shattered all around us every day.

  • countries enter into wars that seemingly will never end;
  • many people with money are not happy, and because of a lack of peace, some are even killing themselves;
  • often, education or training will not guarantee a satisfying and fulfilling career;
  • the perfect house in the right neighborhood and the perfect car, can be vandalized, damaged, or lost because it has become too expensive to own;
  • finally, our body image has to be determined from within and not without because the scriptures tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.    Colossians 3:15 (New Living Translation)

God has called us to “live in peace,” not just an absence from conflict but living a life of peace or Shalom as described earlier: being whole, full, complete, not fragmented, and made perfect. God’s peace will:

  • save the unsaved;
  • restore relationships;
  • heal the sick and wounded;
  • bring prosperity or pay your bills;
  • raise self-esteem;
  • make enemies into friends;
  • and cast out fear and worry.

When we are living a life of peace, the life that Jesus said He gives us, we can expect to receive the goodness of God in every aspect of our lives. Any area of our lives that is fragmented, not whole, incomplete, broken, and need to be put back together; we can turn to the Lord to receive the peace that only He can give.

In short, with the peace of God ruling in our hearts, we don’t have to be troubled or afraid because Jesus tells us:

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.John 16:33 (KJV)

My friend, do not be troubled, or full of anxiety…we are overcomers! Jesus lives and has given us the victory! Walk in peace; rest in peace; let peace rule in your heart and life…it belongs to everyone that serves the Lord! This is the will of God for us!

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”             —Philippians 4:6-7 (New Living Translation)

    “How do you make it when struggle seems to be the order of the day?”
    You have no idea how much the entire post spoke to me, but this question was asked by the speaker at church yesterday… I’m still mulling over the thoughts that have bombarded my mind since.

    “When we are living a life of peace, the life that Jesus said He gives us, we can expect to receive the goodness of God in every aspect of our lives. Any area of our lives that is fragmented, not whole, incomplete, broken, and need to be put back together; we can turn to the Lord to receive the peace that only He can give.

    Thank you.

    God bless you,

      Hello Ann! It is wonderful that our God, being the awesome Father that He is, has provided for us peace or the ability to rise above the “struggles of life” and not be consumed by them. However it is our responsibility to trust Him daily for it or otherwise we may miss it–the peace that is. –S

    You quoted Sebastion …’His Peace which exceeds anything we can understand ” That`s the sort of peace that can`t be measured only experienced.

God does give us peace in the storm, here is a quote from a response I just gave to someone else…”It is not only the fact that God gives us peace or tranquility while in the storms of life but he also has provided peace, as you quoted from the blog, to bring wholeness if the storm has caused any damage.” Thank you for your prayers and adding to the discussion! Send me an email and let me know how the study is going. Bless you my brother! –Sebastian

    Good morning Sebastian,what a good and encouraging word to start my day,and so many of my favorite scriptures too. Peace is such a wonderful thing and I thank God for Jesus and the peace he’s given me down through these many years “Hallelujah”!! I often think of Jesus with his disciples struggling in the midst of the sea,and Jesus is sleeping,resting in our Fathers arms.Just as he wants us to do every hour of the day, Shalom.

    What a powerful encouragement in your message Sebastian, giving assurance and uplifting us as you shared God’s Truth.

    Very True also as you said, there is a big difference in worldly fleshy peace and God’s Peace, this is the same as His Love, Joy, Hope, Rest, Perfection, Riches, Wisdom, Knowelage, Protection and also His Healing which is not always Physical but is often deep within.

    The Scripture below Sebastian also confirms what you said about worldly peace, especially in the end times that we are experiencing the Birth pangs of.

    1 Thessalonians 5:2-4 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

    Christian Love from both of us – Anne.

    Thank you so much. I needed this. I get filled with anxiety from time to time about my health when I feel so afraid because I don’t know what’s going wrong with me. The Holy Spirit has told me to trust Him, and to be at peace….to be calm. This is a much needed post, Sebastian.

    And, I can’t help but do this…I’m not trying to sell my book..but when I post these links and things, it’s because my agent is taking too long and want people to be blessed and moved! But this particular excerpt I posted sometime ago goes with your post and the opening verse here…so forgive me…just delete this off if it comes across wrong. I won’t be upset, hurt, or offended. If it didn’t go hand in hand with what the Lord has written through you here today, I wouldn’t do it.

    I don’t think anyone ever saw this post, actually, it was before I really had anyone visiting my website. http://lynleahz.com/2012/06/20/my-rendition-of-john-14/ God bless you, and I hope it blesses you as much as you’ve blessed me.

        Thank you! All throughout the second and third book, I gave flashbacks like this, and I gave glimpses into heaven during the opening of the seals, the blowing of the trumpets..and the emptying of the bowls. I love Jesus period…but I sure love the warrior in Him against Satan….the powerful, mighty hero! He arleady defeated Satan when He died and rose again, but praise God, we actually get to see Satan get crushed when he gets dumped into the bottomless pit for 1,000 years..and then finally, after that, merciful God as our Father is, he is given another chance, but of course messes up as soon as he gets released, but gets thrown into the pits of hell! Praise the Lord!
