Often, I make my Monday posts about the subject of marriage. I like to call it Marriage Monday. Can I Submit to My Husband? Pt. 1
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. (Ephesians 5:22-24)(KJV)
I have something to confess. When I was a single woman in the church I had a problem with this scripture. When I spoke to my single sisters in Christ, I found they felt the same way. Especially after all we’ve done to become self-sufficient and self-governing. In the “Jill Translation,” which I read often, this scripture read;
- Be a doormat
- Have no opinions
- Become a servant
- He will dominate me
- I am a second class citizen
- My life is over
I wasn’t ready to give up what I had worked so hard to achieve, which was me.
