20 My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. 21 Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, 22 for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body.—Proverbs 4:20-22 (NLT)
This is the second installment relating to using the Word of God as medicine for the areas in our lives which need healing: bodies, emotions, marriages, families, finances and relationships. Click here to read part 1.
Now, let’s continue the lesson…
The enemy works hard to keep Christians in the dark concerning the power of God’s Word. He uses two methods mainly to do this…ignorance and misinformation.
First, there is ignorance. This is where many of us are. Ignorance is darkness or the state of being uninformed. Whenever there is a lack of information on any subject, the person or persons deficient is in ignorance. I have often heard people use the word ignorant or ignorance to belittle or to put someone down. Even that is an instrument of the enemy because it will keep people from understanding what ignorance really is and thereby they will never seek to be knowledgeable, but rather attempt to defend themselves and not to grow.
Secondly, there is misinformation. This is where information is given concerning a subject but not in a way that will foster real growth. Misinformation is like telling half-truths, it can be convincing but not freeing. Just because the argument on a subject is loud, informative, and convincing, does not necessarily mean it is entirely truthful—even if it is coming from an “authority”.
31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.—John 8:31-32
My argument here is: there is only one Truth. There may be many facts, but only God’s Word is Truth and Truth is higher than facts! It is the hearing, believing, understanding and proper application of the Truth that will set or make you truly free! Let me be clear about this, the Word of God is what everything that exists is built upon. We must use the Word as the foundation for every fragment of our lives.
Regardless of the circumstance or difficulty, it can change through the truth of God’s Word. However, to experience that change, the Truth of the Word must be believed and held to with absolute faith and confidence. It absolutely cannot be a matter of convenience—something picked up or put down when we feel like it. We must start and stay with the Word—our lives depend upon it.
Therefore, take your medicine (the Word). Take it in small or large doses; take it once or several times a day…you cannot overdose on the Word and it has no side effects. Allow the power of the Word to infuse and saturate your body and every situation of your life. Even the most difficult state of affairs is subject to change, and it will definitely show itself insignificant in comparison to our Lord and His Word.
20 My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. 21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. 22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
